A USAF C9-A Nightingale from the 375th Aeromedical Airlift Wing returns to Scott AFB Illinois on a warm sunny day after it’s aeromedical evacuation mission to Buckley AFB Colorado and back. For decades, C-9 Nightingale crews served selflessly around the world. At a moment’s notice, the aircraft would be dispatched to aerovac patients, many in critical condition, to hospital facilities worldwide. Air Force pilots, flight mechanics, flight nurses, aeromedical evacuation technicians, and doctors teamed together in the air over thousands of flight hours. As a result of their dedication, they saved countless lives during their many years of service. This particular C-9A featured in “Triple Six Comes Home,” was flown by the 375th Airlift Wing and the 932 Aeromedical Airlift Group for over 35 years, from 1968-2003. C-9A Tail 68-8932, “The City of Belleville” as the aircraft was named is shown coming in low over the airfield at Scott AFB as it sets up to land after a busy flying day.
