Hurryin’ Home Horses

Two P-51 Mustangs from the 357th Fighter Group, are beating up the English countryside as they head for the barn after a mission deep into Europe The lead aircraft ‘Hurry Home Honey’ was flown by 364th squadron commander Major Richard ‘Pete’ Peterson. His Mustang was named after the way, his wife would end her letters to him while he was overseas. Maj. Peterson would finish the war with 15.5 aerial victories and considered on of the the great combat leaders of the war.

This particular painting was signed by Pete along with his fellow pilots from the group. Group Commander Tommy Hayes, Bud Anderson, and the legendary, Chuck Yeager. All served with Pete and signed the original painting with him. If you look closely at this limited-edition print, you will see the names at the bottom of the image which were faithfully reproduced from the original. The 357th flew 313 combat missions between 11 February 1944 and 25 April 1945. It is officially credited by the U.S. Air Force with having destroyed 595.5 German airplanes in the air and 106.5 on the ground making them the highest scoring P-51 group in all of the Eight Air Force during World War II.
